Well this is an exciting day for me…I start the day with Jeannie in just a bit. She’s done my body perms for the last 35 years. And she’s a hoot…no getting around that. She knows more about Massac/Pope and Johnson Counties…than the folks ‘running’ those counties…
She has a little beauty shop in the boonies and she gets there about 5am…and goes home about 7pm…and at any given time during the day…there are 6 to 8 women setting in that little shop…sometimes husbands…just gabbing up a storm. They even come to her from Murray…Mayfield…Marion, Illinois…just all over. You get all the latest gossip at Jeannie’s and then some. And I can’t WAIT! Only problem is…you can’t repeat most of what you hear…or at least you shouldn’t…because she has been in some life threatening predicaments…and she knows stuff NOBODY should know…and it’s put her in the line of danger more than once…so you don’t want to repeat anything…and put yourself in that same situation…
She can tell you all about the Metropolis Mafia……who’s embezzling from ‘who’…who’s stepping out on their spouses…who has every ailment in the book AND their prognosis…she knows all the cougar stories..current and past…and the little honey bear spottings…she’s even heard and repeated a few bigfoot stories…so this is like going to Disney World for a really nosey person.
AND at 6:40…while I was watching and waiting for a good shot…I heard the loudest roar…it was some kind of big cat…I can’t wait to tell Billy about it. It may have been a bobcat…I’m not sure…but it was some kind of wild cat…it sounded like it was a good ways behind the house…but it was still very loud. THEN about 30 seconds later…I heard what sounded like a cow just mooing to beat the band…and it sounded like it was in dire distress…so …YES, I’m wondering if the wild cat…got the ‘cow’. :-/ I hope not! Shall we pray… 🙁
Well…tons to talk about this morning and now I’m running short on time. I’ve been browsing youtube and then I went cougar hunting from the back porch. 🙂
I was describing the sound I heard yesterday morning to Billy and he believes it just might have been a cougar. It was so loud…like a lions roar…but it was more high pitched than those deep bass roars we hear on tv from those big old fluffy necked lions.
We know we have them…we’ve seen 3 right here..2 in the secret garden and 1 in the front field…and one night I was watching tv in bed really late…and I heard that same roar right outside our bedroom window…and it sounded like it was in the edge of the woods…I woke Billy up and said, “It sounded like a lion just roared outside our bedroom window.” He said, “If it gets in…wake me up again.” :-0 Does that mean the honeymoon is over??? :-/ I was SO excited that night…we were having peak cougar sightings all over the county and it was when all the hub bub was going on up at New Columbia…and I just knew we had one within our sight if we’d just get up ‘together’ and go look. 🙂 But naw…he was sleepy…and he didn’t care. If it had roared again though…while he was still awake…he would have knocked me off the bed…trying to get up and see it. :8)
For about 2 years…I carried a little disposable camera in the car and I called that my ‘cougar camera’. I was trying to be ready in case we saw one on the road. Then one day we were heading out to meet the geezers on the Valkyrie and I had forgotten my camera in the house and Billy said, ‘just grab your cougar camera out of the car’..and that was the end of my cougar camera…I need to get another one and put it in there after Elyre Faulkner seeing that one up past New Columbia a few weeks ago. I’ll pick one up next week when I go get a new Kodak or whatever to replace the camera I broke…I need to get Kims old camera back to her…that’s her backup camera.
It was brought to my attention yesterday that I haven’t named my new found cougar yet…so I gave it some thought when I couldn’t go to sleep last night and I’m going to name ‘it’….Cougi…that’s pronounced…’koo gee’…because we don’t know if it’s a girl or a boy…and that should work for both….so when I talk about Cougi…in the days and weeks to come…you’ll now I’m talking about my cougar.
And someone pm’d me to suggest I set a trap of sorts for Cougi…and put some pig meat in a spot way back away from the house…and put a trail cam on it…I LOVED that idea & offered to pop for the trail cam myself…but Billy said ‘no’…and when Billy speaks in Round Knob Canyon…it’s like when E F Hutton speaks……everybody in Round Knob Canyon is expected to ‘listen’…mainly ‘me’. :8)
SO…my brain is at work…I’ve seen 4 of these things…and I’ll figure something out that won’t get me in dutch with the general. :8) So hang on…I’m about to show you your first cougar in Massac County…I’m not sure just yet if you’ll be seeing it dead or alive…but stay tuned…
Billy and I sat on the porch about 3 hours last night…I had gone out to feed the wildlife and hummingbirds at 6pm and set down in the swing to listen and see if I could hear Cougi 🙂 and in a bit Billy came out and we set in those swings until 9pm…we solved a lot of the worlds problems last night…now if someone would just listen to what we have to say. 🙂
But we had a very serene/relaxing and enjoyable evening. We even heard a strange noise about 8:40…it was an animal…and it made a long/loud cry…Billy said, “Well that’s a sound I’ve never heard in my upteen dozens of years in the woods.” :-0 “WHAT”??? :-0 We have CITY PEOPLE coming out here in 48 hours…to set in the secret garden around a bonfire!!! Billy said, “Nothing is going to come near a bunch of jabbering/laughing people..setting around a big bonfire.” I said, “On a scary movie it would.” :8) He said, “Well this isn’t a movie…it’s real life!”
He said I don’t know what that was…but it wasn’t your cougar. And he went on…he said, “It may have been the donkey in the field 2 homes down…being EATEN by your cougar…but it wasn’t your cougar.” :8)
We have a new reader…and he is actually a real…Bigfoot Researcher..out of the St Louis area…and he literally travels all over the country…studying bigfoot sighting areas and he’s actually in Maine this week…so I thought I’d tell a short bigfoot story this morning…
Back in the early 1990’s…probably about 1992…in the height of Kim and my private investigating business 🙂 our oldest son called one day..and he said, “Mom, Chuck just came by with a story I just knew you would want to hear. He said his uncle and aunt…live way back in the boonies down Kommer Road in Northeast Massac County…and almost to the Pope County line…and old Mr. Chucks Uncle…went out on the porch to go wee wee (:-/ WHAT IS IT WITH MEN DOING THIS????????? Craziest thing I’ve ever heard of…what if we wives were setting in the living room and got up out of our easy chair…and headed for the door..and our husbands said..”Where ya goin?'” and we said, “Oh I’m going out to wee wee off the porch!” :-0 LORDY MERCY!!! And they wonder why we call them little boys all their lives……goodness!!! ANYWAY…old Uncle Mr. Chucks Uncle…went out to wee wee off the porch…and chuck’s aunt said he came stumbling back in the door…in a very undesirable pose and said there was something outside and it was tons taller than ‘he’ was…and probably at least 8 foot tall…and hairy and smelly…..
Uncle Mr. Chucks Uncle….said, they were both startled at the sight of each other and they both ran in opposite directions….they called the police…who naturally didn’t find anything.
Remember I told you I had a friend that does bigfoot investigations? I actually met him on facebook…after Steve Schwetmann sent us this sighting story and I looked the investigator up and we became friends….And I can’t remember if I told you all the story or not…but 2 years ago this October, I believe it was…there was a man here hunting from Arkansas…on a farm that’s just a rocks throw from us…as the crow flies…and this Arkansas man said he was confronted by a ‘bigfoot’ when he was heading back to his truck that evening…now don’t laugh…I WANT there to be a bigfoot…if you don’t…keep that to yourself..this is MY blog :8) and I’m telling you what “I” want…so this investigater from St Louis…is coming down in about 2 weeks to see what…if anything..he can find…I’m even anxious to see if he finds any signs of cougars..because he often finds things like that too…and ‘he’ knows what he’s doing…this ‘is’ what he does..so stay tuned for details on his investigation…
Na Na NaNa Na Naaaaaaaaaa I’ve done something I’ll bet you’ve never done and it’s all your fault…because you could be unorganized like me if you’d just try. I had SUCH a hectic day yesterday…ended up spending another half day at the church instead of just another hour…and then ran a couple of errands in town..and South Gate called while I was ‘at the church’…so I had to run in there…it was just a very hectic and exhausting day…so I came home…had quite a bit to wrap up here…and talk to Billy a bit to tell him about my hectic day…had a couple of phone calls which is unusual…we’re just not phone people…we don’t call ‘people’ and it’s rare that anyone calls us…I mean on a daily basis…we get a few calls a week…but we’re not ones to ‘chit chat’ on the phone…except for Billy and Poss a couple of times a week in the evening………WAIT A MINUTE…I”M LOST…where was I going with this…..??? Oh yeow…what I’ve done that I’ll bet YOU have never done…anyway…It was just a very hectic day and I was SO tired when I came home…I had brought supper home from Big Johns Deli…we ate and talked a while…I
tied up a few loose ends…and told Billy I was so tired I was going to get a shower and get in my jammies before I even sat down….so I went upstairs…and got my shower…GOT DONE…GOT OUT…was drying off…and felt my glasses still on top of my head. :-/ I wear them there all the time…so they’ll be handy if I see Cougi or deer wandering the yard…and usually I shampoo my hair real quick every night in the shower..but last night…I was just too tired…and didn’t notice my glasses until I got out and was drying off……Now if you’d like to be more like me…I could try to train you…but you’d better eat your spinach before you even sign up for the training…because I’m telling ya…I move all day loooooooong at a high rate of speed…..
But I drove up in front of the shop and immediately got SO excited…because there was a monsterous wild animal laying right smack dab in the middle of the road…dead….and I thought it was a Cougar…so I jumped out of my car and ran back to it…and it was a big Bobcat…she said her first patron that came at 4am had hit it and thought it was a dog..several others came in shortly after the first woman and also told her there was a dead dog in front of her shop…but then 2 men stopped by for haircuts on their way to Allied about 4:45…and told her it was a Bobcat…and it was a Bobcat and it was huge…NOW..she’s worried there are others close by and she comes and goes in the dark daily…
